Position Overview:

Unique opportunity for talented litigator to join leading water resources/environmental practice involved in ongoing federal and state court litigation affecting water supplies for more than 25 million Californians and hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland.

Seek seasoned litigator with federal and state court trial and pre-trial experience to assist in representation of institutional clients involved in complex, cutting-edge environmental litigation under Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, Reclamation Law, California Environmental Quality Act, California Endangered Species Act, Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act, and California water rights law.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibility is working on a team of KMTG water resources/environmental attorneys to assist public water agency clients, private landowner clients and other private and public clients requiring representation in federal and state court litigation and quasi-adjudicatory and quasi-legislative administrative agency proceedings.

Duties include:

·         Civil litigation, including: counsel on administrative remedies and standing; pleading preparation; preparing and reviewing administrative records; conducting law-and-motion practice (i.e., TROs, preliminary injunctions, demurrers, summary judgment/adjudication, motions in limine, fee recovery); pre-trial discovery; witness and exhibit preparation; trials; and appeals.

·         Administrative proceedings before the State Water Resources Control Board.

·         Running client meetings and litigation team meetings to set and implement strategy.

·         Appearing at public meetings.

·         Overseeing and training junior associates.

·         Expanding KMTG's water/environmental litigation practice to new clients.

May be opportunities to provide litigation assistance for other KMTG practice areas.

Qualifications:

Candidate must possess the requisite knowledge, skills and capabilities to accomplish the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Qualifications necessary to meet position requirements include but are not limited to:

·         At least 10 years of civil litigation experience.

·         Exceptional writing skills and a strong academic background.

·         Exceptional oral argument and oral presentation skills for public hearings, meetings.

·         Ability to quickly analyze and interpret complex legal and scientific documents.

·         Ability to work effectively with people under pressure, to exercise sound judgment, and to establish and maintain professional relationships with clients and colleagues.

·         Ability to multi-task, to problem solve and to bring projects to timely completion.

·         Ability to market KMTG's practice to new clients.
